Luxembourg is known for its beautiful castles, churches and bridges. There is also some incredible but lesser-known contemporary buildings that are worthy to note. The Vianden castle is one of the only castles in Luxembourg that is not in ruins. The Vianden castle was built at about 1100 and was originally just a fort, the counts and other nobility added living quarters in order to impress the House of Luxembourg. Saint Michael's Church is another iconic landmark, dating back to as early as the late 900s. It was built on the oldest religious landmark in Luxembourg city, and it was originally the church for the count of Luxembourg but has been renovated since then. The Adolphe bridge has become a kind of national symbol to represent Luxembourg's independence. The bridge was designed by Paul Séjourné and was built in 1900-1903. A more recent building is the Philharmonie which was built in 2005. The concert hall hosts up to 400 performances each year.
