Choose one French speaking country which will be your focus for this year.
Investigate 6 aspects of this
country in greater detail (see below for further guidance). Every two weeks you will focus on one topic. You will post twice (minimum) on the
blog for each topic. We do not
want you to copy and paste but you can attach photos or youtube video
links. We want to hear YOUR voice in the posts
This project will take the place of two
homeworks per week.
Near the end of this school year you will review your research and select your favorite topic (of the three you did) to create one final project for display. We will hold an exhibition during fête/fiesta day to celebrate your work.

EXAMPLES
OF TOPICS
- Food: recipes, discuss typical dishes or types of food that are grown locally, could be famous drinks too. Discuss how people eat and where they meet to eat – the types of restaurants or bars you might find in the big cities. How family gathers to eat. How they prepare their food. Where they typically buy their food – in open markets or in supermarkets?
- Culture/traditions: you could investigate typical celebrations or fiestas that happen in the country – explore the types of national dress or costumes that are used – the music that is played during these festivities. What their history is .
- Architecture famous buildings: these could be ruins from Aztec or Inca civilizations or modern buildings that have impacted the city or country. You could describe their design, what they are made of and what the buildings are used for.
- Geography - landscape of the country you are talking about – mountains or desert and how the suround impacts the people who live there. You could include information on natural disasters that have affected the country – like the volcanoes erupting or floods or earthquakes. How does the landscape impact what agriculture there is.
- Politics (type of gov and organisational structure) is the government democratic? A dictatorship? How are people voted in? What political history does the country have the particularly interests you?
- Economy: what does this country live on? What does it sell to other countries? Is it poor and rural or rich and industrial?
- Music: here you could talk about traditional dances and songs and instruments typical to the country or you could talk about modern artists that have made an impression on the rest of the world or you could just explore one artist. How important is music in this country?
- Sport: this could be a focus on one particular sport that the country is famous for or one player in particular. You could talk about traditional sports (bullfighting in Spain) and its history?
- Literature: here you could look at a writer or poet or a famous piece of work that in some way relates to the country they come from
10.Art:
An artist or movement that comes from your
country – even a work of art that
you want to analyse.
11. Issues: that the
country has this could be a drug
problem – extreme poverty – environmental changes that have impacted the
country. A current affairs issue
that you have read about. (e.g.
the mining disaster in Chile)
12. History: Find out
about some part of the country’s history that interests you which may involve a
story or a legend.
