Haiti

The Haitian flag has long been a symbol of pride for Haiti.  It has the Haiti coat of arms on it and the colors red and blue.  It was made from the French flag.  Haitian Flag Day on Monday, May 18, is all about celebrating the culture and heritage of the Haitian flag, where people dance, sing, and eat. Haitian Flag Day events took place not just in Haiti, but in U.S. cities as well.  The Haitian flag as it’s known today first came into use in 1806. The story behind the flag’s red-and-blue backdrop is that Jean-Jacques Dessalines, a leader in the Haitian Revolution against France, removed the white in the French flag to symbolize their newly-found independence.

Haiti

Many tropical fruits are grown in Haiti becuase of its tropical climate, such as avocados, mangoes, pineapples, coconuts, cerise, passion fruit, and guava.  Refreshing fruit juices are a very popular way to use these delicious resources. The History of Madagascar - Zoya Fazal

Histoire le Madagascar
In a cataclysmic earthquake, Madagascar floated away from Africa about 165 million years ago. It drifted approximately 250 miles to the northeast, where it currently resides.

How the French Revolution affected Madagascar
In 1883, the French attacked Madagascar. After almost three years of warfare, Madagascar became a French protectorate, and then, after a massive 1895 invasion by French forces, Madagascar became a full-fledged French colony. The monarchy was abolished, and French became the official language.

In 1958, Charles de Gaulle became the President of France. He immediately granted Madagascar their independence. But the French culture still remains. French is still one of the official languages of Madagascar.
